(More customer reviews)I am hard pressed to see how this can be called a pressure cooker when you cook with the vent open, then let it sit for a while. After the heat is no longer being applied, I don't see how there can be "pressure". It is a very nice looking piece of equipment, and poses no problems putting it together. Instructions are as minimal as they can be. I'll keep it using it, and it may have a place in my kitchen, but I don't think it will be the one I expected.

It's easy to handle and you don't need to find an electric socket to use it as you do with the electric rice makers. Rice never burns and comes out perfectly.

(More customer reviews)I've had my cooker for 11 years (got it in college). Great for making a quick (12-15 min) single or double serving of rice. The plastic design (as well as the lid disassembly) makes for easy cleanup.
Larger servings can be difficult due to boil-over issues, so I wouldn't recommend making more than about 3/4 cup of rice at one go. Also, the bits that snap over the lid to hold it down can come off and get lost. I still have mine after 11 years, but my college roommate lost one of his way back then. (It was after he moved out with his cooker in the summer that I had to pick up my own - I was hooked at that point.)

(More customer reviews)The quality of the container is good, but the instruction/recipe book was a joke. If you are using a newer microwave, you may be cooking the rice too hot. If you find the rice shell not popped and hard, you are cooking it on too high of power. Product very easy to clean.

(More customer reviews)I bought this for one reason; so my buddy in the Army who is flying around in the desert can make himself and his crew a meal without them having to walk the damned mile from their quarters to the chow hall.
I researched microwavable rice cookers and this one fit the bill because of 1)price, 2)size (can fit in a very small microwave), and 3) capacity. It also provided good value because of the measuring cup and spoon provided.
I shipped this to Iraq (via USPS APO) along with some bags of Jasmine Rice, Pouches of Chicken breast meat, Cans of Coconut Milk and baby corn, an envelope of "Taste of Thai" peanut sauce mix, and my recipe for "Chicken and Baby Corn in peanut sauce over jasmine rice" (which as you might imagine involved mixing and heating everything but the rice, then dumping it over the rice.)
IT WAS A HUGE HIT, and it's not like these knuckleheads (I say that with all due fondness and respect) can cook. So bottom line, this thing would be perfect for a Soldier in the field or a college student in a dorm room.

You MUST follow Nordic Wares instructions for cooking rice. Using any other recipes/directions, will result in your rice being soggy & the water not absorbing. The one noticible difference between the other cookers I tried and this one is that I didn't have to clean my microwave after using this rice cooker. NO SPILLS & OVERFLOWS! I just ordered a second cooker to place in storage just in case this model is discontinued. GREAT PRODUCT AT A GREAT PRICE!

I couldnt eat the dorm food and this allowed me to cook pasta in my room. I wish i hadnt lost my package insert, that told me the cooking times for everything, so if anyone else goes out and buys this, do us all a favor and post it, eh? I liked that it gave cooking times for steaming veggies, pasta and rice; I LOVED how easy it was to clean. This is a MUST for any one going away to school, and makes a GREAT graduation gift.
