(More customer reviews)I decided to try a rice cooker because my family prefers rice over potatoes and I wanted to be able to leave the rice to warm while I did other things for a meal.
Good points-
*This cooker is easy to clean.
*This cooker is easy to use. Just fill according to directions and portion size needed, press the lever and let it go.
*It comes with a steamer basket to give this cooker double duty for veggies, dumplings etc.
*It is a very handsome design that matches a great many other products from different manufacturers.
*The liner is non-stick and removable for easy cleaning.
*In my use it has never boiled over BUT a great deal of HOT steam is vented from the top as it cooks so be careful.
Not so good points-
*It can tend to over cook and make a brown crust to the rice on the very bottom of the pan. This is not helped by the warming cycle that continues as long as the cooker is plugged in. The best thing is to be aware when the cycle ends and unplug the unit. It will keep rice warm for a meal on it's own.
*I found it needed a bit more water than the directions called for to cook any type of rice.
*This unit has no off/on switch to turn it OFF. You must unplug the unit to truly turn it OFF.
I would recommend this unit to anyone who wants to try a rice cooker. We have been happy and it saves a burner on the stove for other cooking needs. Just keep an eye for when the rice is done and unplug the unit. It will keep rice warm just on it's own without the warming cycle.

(More customer reviews)Excellent cooker - wonderful chicken. Put a little cranberry juice in the well, rub the bird down with Konriko Greek seasoning and you're all set. In my oven, a 5# chicken needs about 2 hours at 375.
The only negative is that the bowl developed a hairline crack across the bottom after about 10 uses. To be fair, this was after cooking at a slighty higher temp than the instructions say (they recommend 350). So far, the crack has not seemed to affect performance.
UPDATE, Oct 2007: A year later, the bowl with the hairline crack is still working fine.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this rice cooker after multiple attempts to learn to cook rice on the stovetop, :( I did alot of research before buying it, to the point I drove my girlfriend nuts). I don't think you can find another company out there who gets 5 star reviews an everything they make for your kitchen. Very high end appliances at affordable prices, check them out yourself. This cooker will cook 27 cups (thier cup which is about 3/4 cup USA measurements) even though the box says 10 cups (that is uncooked rice). It works flawlessly, is high quality, and has 2 stackable stainless steel (not plastic) steamer trays. This was a big deciding feature for me! You will not be disappointed in this purchase. I bought it at Bed Bath & Beyond because I always get those 20% off coupons on the mail, $51.70 final price. I WILL be buying Breville products in the future like thier WOK and indoor grill, also 5 star rated and now I know why! If you've been on the fence with buying a rice cooker don't wait another minute buy this one today!

after reading about the drawbacks of non stick cooking elements. i attempt to try this
we use this cooker to cook rice daily. and the rice comes out very well and it is fluffy also.
some rice sticks at the bottom.
but we can avoid sticking by doing this
1. don't put rice in warm mode for longer
2. do not take rice from the cooker immediately after it is done. leave it in the cooker for half an hour(unplugged)
if little rice sticks at bottom, we don't mind. because it is stainless steel
the steamer is good to cook vegetables
i give 5stars since the stainless steel bowl is of good quality.

(More customer reviews)The stainless steel is high quality steel. I use rice cooker a lot - not just for rice. The reason I didn't give it a 5 stars is that the handle on the steamer tray was off the hock after second use and I couldn't put it back on. Also I don't know why Amazon still didn't correct it - it's a 8-CUP, not 18-cup pot. So it is pretty pricey if you consider that. But I decided to keep it for the quality material (at least looks like) they used .

Sanyo 3-1/2-Cup Micro-Computerized Rice Cookers/Warmers with Bread-Baking Functions Review

(More customer reviews)When I saw it had a bread baking function, I was curious. I didn't expect a whole lot but I figured if the bread baking isn't great, I'd always have an oven anyway. So I took the chance.
I just used frozen bread dough (the one with 3 loaves in a bag). 1 loaf was a bit too big so I pinched off the end to make it smaller.
after 90 minutes I opened the lid it was all the way to the top. I then flip it over to brown the other side. Now the instruction says after 40 minutes you have to punch it down. Well, I didn't because I didn't hear the buzzer. But since it baked fine, I don't even bother to punch it down. It bakes fine without doing so. I used Pizza dough. What's great is that for a quick loaf, it won't heat up the whole kitchen. It doesn't use unnecessary eletricity(or gas) because you don't have to turn on the big oven. When we decide to have Italian, I just pop one piece of thawed dough. By the time the dinner is ready, bread is done. It doesn't produce dark crust, instead, it comes out with very light crust. Inside is so soft like steamed bun. It is so yummy. I also tried sweet roll dough with cinnamon, currant and sugar. It was great, too. I'm sure you can get really creative.
And by the way, it also cooks great rice, too. I used to own Zojirushi and I believe Sanyo cooks better rice than that. Not that Zojirushi is bad, it was an older model. This rice cooker's inner bowl is much thicker so that might be why....
Anyway, I am so glad I bought this.
