(More customer reviews)This hot dog maker is obviously waay cute. It's also a good price. Compared to other cutesy hot dog makers, 8 dogs is a good number. I love the carnival themed umbrella sneeze guard over the dogs, and having that double as a bun warmer was an inspired idea. The poles that hold up the umbrella are nice and sturdy, and it assembles in only 1 minute. This thing has many bonus features:
*Rollers look just like the industrial unit at your local convenience store. They really roll!
*It can also handle 4 foot long dogs and even foot long buns! That's really great because my wife loves those. However, 4 is an anemic number.
*Nostalgia went to the extra expense to include an on/off switch and even a temp control. Temp control should prove useful vs. devices that do not include that.
*This unit includes a griddle attachment for hamburgers/bacon/sausage, etc. I think the unit is too small to be useful for frying hamburgers; you could only do two at a time. The griddle drops in where the rollers would otherwise go, so switching functions is not going to be convenient and will require tools or heat proof gloves if you don't want to wait for a cool-down period.
*The heating element is a beefy rectangular coil that gives good coverage of the cooking area and is directly exposed to the dogs, yielding fast, strong heat.
*The drip tray, griddle, and rollers are all removable for easy cleanup. Love that.
*The rollers are beefy all metal construction - nice.
So that adds up to one very nice unit, of which Nostalgia should be proud. The only real shortcoming I see is that eight dogs, while a good number for a toy device like this, can't stand up to much crowd control. Figure at least two dogs for each child, and three for each man and you're feeding only three to four people per batch. Assume the thing is lightning fast at ten minutes per batch and you see that you're going to need ten of these toys to feed your super bowl party, hahahaha.
Then you have to ask yourself, is this gizmo worth the space? It's pretty big, about the size of a toaster oven. Will you keep it out on the counter and use this special purpose device often (doubtful)? How far back in the closet will it be stored and will you go to the trouble to drag it out to cook up dogs for three people, pack it back up, and re-store it (doubtful)? So is it worth the space? I think it's probably best suited for its intended audience: a party of four kiddos.

This is my second time using it, and it stopped turning. Looking at it further, it seems that the poorly meshing gears on the side jammed, and spun the un-welded square end off the drive shaft.
From the moment I took it out of the box, the gears never mesh well, and the mechanism would stick and jam. Nice idea, really bad workmanship.

Nostalgia RHD-800 Retro Hot-Dog Roller Review

This is literally a "set-it and forget-it" cooking device.
Bought it originally for the office but now I want one for home.
Pros:
-simple to use
-easy clean up
-makes perfectly cooked dogs
Cons:
if your dogs are bun length you won't fit 8 but rather 4 on at a time
Let me address a few comments I've read above concerning this unit.
Yes, sometimes the hot dogs don't want to roll at first. Why? Because the way they are vacuum sealed squeezes them into a squarish shape. Don't worry once they start to heat and plump they'll roll just fine. As I stated above and others mentioned if you are cooking longer dogs you'll only be able to fit 4 dogs instead of 8. The bun warmer is more of a bun drier as others have said so we don't use that. The right knob turns the rollers on and the left knob controls the heat. We run the left knob at 5 o'clock and in 20-25 minutes you'll have a nice evenly cooked hot dog with perfect color and perfect temperature inside. We've cooked more than 100 hot dogs on this unit since my purchase less than a month ago, unit is still going strong with zero issues.
In conclusion I can't think of one bad thing to say about this unit.
If you are even a little interested in this item don't hesitate, order one, you won't regret it.

Grill Dog GD-01001 Stainless-Steel Rotisserie Linked-Meat Cooker Review

(More customer reviews)This product is available with a motor -- either AC or battery powered -- or with no motor. I bought the one without. It's not hard to assemble, but it is hard to set up and adapt to a grill that already has a motor and bracket (I have a Kenmore#. You have to think a little out of the box. In my case, I had to turn my motor upside down. The Grill Dog comes with two adapter rods #long and short# that allow you to connect it to a motor. The long rod worked in my case. The rod has a square end that fits into the drive on a motor and a proprietary-shaped end that fits into either end of any of the rollers that aren't blocked by one of the four adjustable legs. Each leg has a foot that rests on the grilling surface and the body can be moved up and down to line up with the motor. Each leg can be adjusted by loosening a wing nut. In my case, I had to lower the body so far that the legs blocked the ends of some of the rollers. Once I got it set up, the Grill Dog worked pretty well. The only problem I had in actual use was that it would sometimes walk, separating itself from the adapter rod and causing my dogs to burn on one side. There should be a firmer connection between the adapter rod and the Grill Dog. The big problem -- the reason I gave it only two stars -- is that it's not made entirely from stainless steel #or it's a very poor grade#. After a season the ends of the rollers, the parts that hold the rollers in the body #like the ends of a toilet paper holder), rusted to the point where they wouldn't turn. And I was careful. Even though it's represented as being dishwasher-safe, I always washed it by hand and dried it by putting back on the grill for a few minutes. I like the way it worked and part of me wants to buy a new one, but I don't want to buy a new one every year.
