Fagor 12 Quart Halogen Tabletop Oven Review

Fagor 12 Quart Halogen Tabletop Oven

I am rating this 3 stars because it cooks very well, crisps the outside of foods and cooks fast. BUT, it doesn't get 5 stars because the attachment of the top handle just isn't robust enough and it is likely to break. The lid is heavy. With my first one of these, the handle attachment to the lid broke on the second day. When I got it fixed, the other side of the handle attachment broke a few days later. I consider it to be a design flaw. The handle itself is a bit weak and it attaches to the lid with 2 little plastic 'knobs' that insert into the lid. But they really are not designed strong enough our thick enough and they break off. If they would design the handle to be stronger, they would have a much better product. If yours breaks, they can send you a replacement, if you keep your information and order number AND YOU MAY ALSO NEED THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING AND SHIPPING BOX, SO SAVE THEM. If it is out of warranty, I don't think the handle would be too hard to fix by drilling a 1/8th inch hole through the handle from both sides and inserting a 6 inch long, 1/8th inch diameter metal 'dowel' or 'pin' or long screw to extend all the way through the top, and from one side of the handle to the other. The top of the lid has enough room for a 'dowel' like this, and this would replace the weak 'knobs' that are on the handle now. The handle is essential as part of the 'switch' that turns the oven on and off. If it breaks, you could tape it in place to keep it fixed in the 'on' position, so that the oven works, but who wants their nice cooker to sit on the counter with the handle taped on? In addition, the trouble is, the lid heats up and you really need the handle to lift the lid and take it off, easily. Maybe your handle will hold up better, but be gentle with it. Other than that, I can't say enough about how amazingly this thing cooks.
Addendum:I got another lid, but the first time I used it, the handle fell off. Luckily, it didn't break this 3rd time, so I was able to put it back on. The trouble is, the lid is heavy glass and it contains the fan motor and heating elements. When the oven runs, the lid is hot, so when you take it off, you can't just set it directly on a counter top, since it may cause damage. After looking at the whole assembly for a while, I decided there are several things you can do. First, don't use the `lid holder' that comes with the set. To set the lid on the holder requires you to turn the lid sideways and that puts more pressure on just one arm of the handle. If you must use the holder, then lift the lid with two hands - one hand on the handle, and one hand on the black plastic part of the lid, which isn't hot. This extra support will help protect the handle much more than just lifting by the handle itself. But a better choice is to either have 2 hot pads ready, on the counter top, to set the lid on, OR, just use the metal extender ring that comes with the oven and set the lid directly on top of it, on the counter. If you do it this way, you can just lift the lid straight up and down, with one hand, and by not turning it sideways, you avoid the extra stress on the handle. I still think it is a great oven and I am happy with it. I can recommend it, as long as you understand the difficulties that you can have with the lid. I just wish the handle were designed stronger.

Cuisinart CVR-1000 Vertical Countertop Rotisserie with Touchpad Controls Review

Cuisinart CVR-1000 Vertical Countertop Rotisserie with Touchpad Controls
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Our first rotisserie was an older compact Ronco with a cylindrical cooking chamber and a horizontal spit, a nice enough product that delivered fine results -- but it was a hassle. The chicken had to be very carefully and tightly trussed, because of the side-to-side orientation of the spit. The quad spikes that made up the spit had to be very carefully centered on the bird, so that the relatively weak motor wouldn't hang up as it tried to lift the heavier side, a process complicated by moving bird parts if the chicken wasn't perfectly trussed. Anything more than a 3.5-4 pound bird ran the risk of brushing up against the drip tray on every rotation, and in general, we found the whole process to be more trouble than it was worth. We just didn't use it very often.
Enter the Cuisinart CVR-1000. Everything that was wrong about the Ronco was right about this one. The vertical spit, the spacious interior cooking space, the ability to choose different temperature settings, even the clean lines and stainless exterior. The cooking process couldn't be much easier and more convenient. Because it's a vertical spit, you just truss the legs together (or not), and slide the cavity of the bird down over the central support. That's it. No sharp metal spikes to drive through the bird, no trying to properly orient the weight of it all, no trying to match the ends of the spikes to metal sockets on another round disk. The support sits in the round drip tray (looks like a small cake pan), and both come out of the oven easily. So you can set everything up on the counter, slip it right into the oven, turn it on and an hour later you have a wonderfully cooked bird.
Cleaning is a cinch. There's a polished heat reflector behind the heating elements that just slides right out. The drip tray catches all the juices, so what's left is just a quick and easy wipe-down on the glass door and interior walls.
The oven sports an interior light, which is really more novelty than tool, but it's nice to be able to see a little more clearly how dark the skin may be getting.
I try to avoid superlatives in reviews, but with products like this one, it's okay to fail sometimes. This is the best rotisserie I've owned. Performance and aesthetic appeal matched with wonderful ease of use and convenience. I do highly recommend brining your birds before cooking. While rotisserie chickens are often juicy and flavorful without, you can end up with some absolutely amazing results with. A delicious maple brine we use consists of 2 quarts water, 1 cup dark brown sugar, 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1/2 cup real maple syrup, 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons sea salt, 5 whole cloves garlic (peeled), 4 whole bay leaves, 2 large sprigs of thyme, 1 teaspoon whole black peppercorns. Mix it together, bring it to a boil and cook it until all the sugars are dissolved. Let it cool to room temperature before adding the bird. Refrigerate both together (bird fully submerged -- this is enough brine for one 4-4.5 pound chicken) for between 5.5 to 6 hours, then toss it in the rotisserie according to the included instructions (about an hour + 5 minutes for that sized bird). What you'll have at the end is a subtly flavored smoky sweet very juicy and flavorful bird, superior to anything you might find at typical groceries or rotisserie fast food places.
Love this machine, and will highly recommend it to friends and family.

Ronco ST3001WHGEN Showtime Compact Rotisserie and Barbeque Oven, White Review

Ronco ST3001WHGEN Showtime Compact Rotisserie and Barbeque Oven, White
Average Reviews:

This makes the juiciest chicken I've ever tasted. Racking the chicken onto the spit is as easy as it looks on TV. The same goes for removing it when done. Clean up is a snap. There's plenty of room for a plump chicken or a couple of Cornish hens. I haven't tried a turkey yet, but I roasted veggies in the spinning basket. Delicious!
I love the pause feature that allows me to stop the spit from turning so that I can add crispiness to any part of the bird. The pan in the bottom collects the juices. I make soup with it later.
It comes with everything too - gloves, video, chicken ties, basket with lid.
This is one of those purchases that makes me want to tell everybody what a great deal I got. I'd give this product ten stars if I could.

Bacon Wave Review

Bacon Wave
Average Reviews:

I like this cooker, however, you have to fidget with the cook times and positioning of the bacon for it to work well. I cook a lot of bacon every so often for job breakfast potlucks. It advertises that you can cook 14 pieces at a time. I find that cooking 14 slices takes twice as long as the instructions indicate and the slices are so close together that they tend to stick together as they cook. I like crispy bacon so instead of 14 minutes, I had to cook the bacon for at least 20-25 minutes to get the bacon crispy. I finally decided to cut back and I only put 7-8 slices in the cooker with a space between each slice to cut down on the sticking together. So, now I cook the bacon for about 13 minutes and it seems to work really well.

Nordic Ware Microwave Omelet Pan Review

Nordic Ware Microwave Omelet Pan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Nordic Ware Microwave Omelet Pan is quite a nifty little kitchen gadget. Before purchasing, I had said to myself, "Making an omelet in the microwave? Impossible." I got this pan and was proven wrong. To my surprise, the omelets made in this pan come out rather tasty. I was also pleased that the eggs come right out of the pan and don't stick at all. However, as others have said, you must use some kind of cooking spray, oil or butter for a completely non-sticking surface when removing the egg from the pan. It's easy to clean. No stuck-on, hard to remove egg whatsoever.
I remember reading one or maybe a few reviews that said their pan didn't come with instructions. Mine did. I followed them and the resulting omelet was not the best. It came out a bit hard. It was edible and not bad but not particularly the best omelet. The instructions are rather standard and goes as follows:
- 2-4 eggs
- 2 tablespoons of milk or water
- Beat in a small bowl
- Pour the mixture in the omelet pan evenly on both sides
- Cook for 2 minutes
- Stir from outside in
- Place the toppings on each half and cook for another 1.5 minutes
- Remove from the microwave
- Fold the pan to make the omelet
What the instructions do not take into account is the wattage of the microwave you're using or that times may vary depending on the amount of eggs you use.
My findings based on the use of 2 eggs, which I think is more than enough(for me anyway), is that hand or electrically mixed eggs took 1.15 to 1.30 minutes to be completely cooked or when the eggs started to bubble up and it looked like they would bubble over and the wet egg was consumed. Any longer or following the above directions provided by Nordic Ware resulted in the hard or rubbery eggs that I described earlier. However, using the times I indicated resulted in a soft, fluffy, fully cooked omelet which was more to my liking. Another important note is that I'm using a 1250W microwave. Perhaps the factory directions would be more suitable if you have a lower wattage microwave or are using more than 2 eggs.
I mostly make cheese omelets. I like to place the cheese on after I take the omelet out of the microwave because from experience when I did it as instructed, the cheese came out watery.
Pan fried, stove-made omelets taste better in my opinion but this pan still does a good job and in a fraction of the time.
I also use the omelet pan for making eggs to put in my breakfast sandwiches. I just beat one egg and pour it on one side of the pan. Cool gadget for quick eggs in the morning.
