(More customer reviews)I bought one of these after seeing a friend use his all the time. He grew up in India, where these cookers are made. I researched the sizes and got the 4-liter one even though I thought it would be one too large for most of my needs. (The smaller ones are aluminum). The stainless one has a very heavy bottom, which makes it great to fry onions and tomatoes up before adding other ingredients and putting on the pressure. Also it makes a great heavy stainless pot even if you do not need to pressure cook. It ended up to be a great size for making soup, stews and meals for two to four (depending on meal). You cannot fill these cookers to the top, so get a bigger size than you would in other pots. The pressure cooker is such a great way to cook beans and rice dishes fast. Very economical in saving fuel and energy, and the results are great. There is an Indian cookbook and instructions included in case you have not used one before.

(More customer reviews)I LOVE this cooker!!! It saves me time, work, money, nutrients, cooks 3-10 times faster. You can put food in even if not defrosted [although microwaves help that issue]. They make the best stews, soups, sweet and sour ribs, chili, puddings, cheese cakes etc. You can buy a really inexpensive cut of meat, put in your spices, some water and wine, and in less than 20 minutes it is fork tender. Whenever I have a recipe that calls for cooked chicken [like enchiladas], I buy the less expensive whole chicken, put it in the cooker and in 15-20 minutes it is falling-off-the-bone tender.
This one comes with a double locking system and two levels of pressure; one for veggies and grains; the other for more dense foods like dry beans, meats or squash. I would never be without one again. I'm going to order the companion 6 quart that Fagor makes for those larger meats and veggies!

The proof is in the cooking. We love our Duromatics, and have several in our home. For one thing it is quiet compared to older versions of pressure cookers, and safer due to several safety-release valves. Once you cook artichokes this way you will never go back to your old method.

(More customer reviews)This is a solid, basic stainless pressure cooker, that is quite a bargain at the $41.45 price (or $33 something after the $25 off $125 kitchen purchases).
Advantages:
* Easy to use flip pressure regulator for quick release of pressure
* Only has 15 lbs pressure that is adequate for normal pressure cooking
* Has handles on both sides that makes the cooker easy to carry and stable when full.
* Stainless won't interact with food product such as tomatoes.
* 8 qt. capacity gives 4 qts of capacity when cooking foaming products such as beans or lentils.
* Easier to clean than some pressure cookers I have used.
Disadvantages:
* Only cooks at 15 lbs of pressure, where some recipes call for only 10 lbs and would have to be adjusted.
* Most canning is done at 10 lbs pressure at sealevel and up to 1000 ft elevation
* I respectfully disagree that this cooker is meant for canning. It could process 3 or 4 pints in a pinch, but a 23 qt pressure cooker is the canning workhorse and will hold 19 pts or 7 qts. The manual suggests not canning in it, and it doesn't have a canning trivet included.
* It is much lighter weight than older Presto models, so I don't know if it will last as long as the old ones did.
Overall, it is a great pressure cooker for most cooking, and is a very good value.

Presto 4-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker Review

(More customer reviews)This is an excellent pressure cooker. I also have the 8-quart stainless steel model by Presto and I don't like that one as much as this one. I like the little rocker on top better because I know exactly how much pressure it has. It is super easy to carry this extremely lightweight pressure cooker to the sink, run water over it, and in 5-10 seconds the pressure is down! It is not heavy or hot. You just have to be careful when you do this. I actually prefer this method of quick cooling to the method used in the 8-quart, which is to open the little weight and let the steam shoot out the top. That method takes about a minute, plus there's steam all over the place. That seems more dangerous to me than going to the sink.
This model is a smaller version of the 6-quart, so if you think this one is too small, that one would work for a family. This size is just right for one or two people. I always make very small quantities of food in it anyway as I don't like to have a lot of leftovers.
Cleanup with this product is very fast and easy as it is so lightweight. Another nice thing is that replacement parts are very easy to obtain (rubber gasket and overpressure plug).
I highly recommend this pressure cooker and the 6-quart stainless steel model as well.
